Drink THAT Bottle Night: February 28th

an inquiry by Ms. Rachel

Tonight is the 10th anniversary of the international phenomenon quipped ‘Drink That Bottle Night’.  Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher, of the Wall Street Journal created this ‘holiday’ to emphasize the need to enjoy wine today, a good bottle doesn’t need an celebration or a special moment, just people to thoroughly enjoy sipping.  A bit cheesy, yes, but the idea is solid.  The special bottle doesn’t need to be spendy or rare or fancy, just grab that bottle you have been saving…the one that holds special signficance…Pop it.  Share it.  Sneak it.  Just Drink it!

*Disclaimer – don’t open that bottle you’ve been saving for your daughter’s wedding or your retirement or to welcome home that special someone…don’t open your ‘cellaring’ bottles of 2005 Bordeaux or any of the 2006 Burgundy.  Leave that alone and wait.  Pop the cork on a wine that will be lovely and accessible right now.

Local restaurants are offering to waive corkage fees or otherwise promoting this glorious concept, and individuals are hosting parties to imbibe in grand scale…I am just curious what YOU are opening.  Care to share?

cheers, rd.
