Boo! Scary Skull Wine Party…

October 21, 2009 at 5:14 pm (Current Events, Our Favorite Things, Special Events, What we're drinking) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Twisted Oak River of Skulls Release Party
[$50 including tax, NOT tip]
Friday, OCTOBER 30th

Get Twisted. The infamous, rowdy folks from Twisted Oak are here and we’ll be celebrating the release of their super special River of Skulls. This wildly burly, sneaky and scary wine is chock full of Calaveras County Mourvedre from the Dalton Vineyard. Heady, aromatic perfume encourages you to jump recklessly, fully, into a glass of this juice. Deep, dark, dirty and sexy, this Mourvedre is earthy and funky, yet pulsing with luscious fruit and sassy spice. An ankle bone of cherries is connected to the shin bone of raspberries, which connects to the knee bone of smoky vanilla. The knee bone is connected to the leg bone of Mourvedre’s natural tabacco character, which connects to the hip bone, back bone and neck bone of a nice long finish. Oh Dem Skulls!

Warm and toasty, belly busting snacks will include some sort of chunky, gourmet chili with crusty bread, sweet cream butter with cornbread, and a custom rum cake. Rubber chickens and pirates will be here too! Join the fun and dress up for the costume contest…one precious, uber yummy bottle of Twisted #%@& will be awarded for the best outfit.

RSVP absolutely necessary. Space is limited and time is spiraling down to zero. Holla at Ms. Erin, or 312-738-1900. Bring friends and bring the par-tay.

FREE Two Brothers BBQ! 6/12

June 11, 2009 at 1:02 pm (Beer, patio events, Special Events)

One man’s folly is another’s pleasure. Er, well. Two Brothers’ ‘oops’ is about to be YOUR good luck! A little over a year ago, our friends over at Two Brothers made a batch of their red rye ale, Cane and Ebel, with too much sugar. It became HUGE and super malty; with a 10% ABV, this Imperial version of the Cane and Ebel was a one-time offering that we decided to put away for a bit in our cellar. We’ll be unleashing it on draft THIS FRIDAY at LUSH on Halsted, and sampling out great picks from the rest of the Two Brothers lineup. We’re even breaking out the grill and slangin’ brats and stuff, so come party with us, try some great beer, and relish in the fact that you’ll get the chance to sip on a beer no longer available ever again, anywhere. Yeah, we love you. 6-9 PM at LUSH on Halsted. Entry and some free samples available for free. Food and Imperial Cane and Ebel will be available for purchase.

LUSH Weekly Email: Blind Tasting

May 28, 2009 at 3:08 pm (BYOB, class, Current Events, Special Events, What we are eating, What we are thinking, What we're drinking) (, , , , )

Oops, it happened again.  Posted here for your perusing pleasure…

I apologize profusely for the horrifying event of last week…you did not receive your weekly LUSH email.  GASP.  Apparently our email utility people were napping.  But, no worries, this is a fair representation of the information you missed last week, minus my suggestions for a glorious Memorial Day weekend, but I am sure y’all did quite well with partying and enjoying the beautiful weather!

P.S.  My coolest cousin, Ms. Alice, will be buzzing into town for a sweet visit with an old family friend, Ms. Lucy.  We all grew up together in the Ozark National Forest in Arkansas…running, climbing, playing in the mud and the garden, swimming, and delving into general mischief and mayhem.  They may be hanging out, causing trouble at LUSH next week!

Hoooweee, put it in my glass!

I am not so sure about y’all, but I am very tempted to slip off my sneakers, run around barefoot for a while, and go play outside.  Granted, any playtime deserves a nice, chilly bottle of pink or white wine.  Or a sixer of local pilsner.  Venture out to see us…we have bottles open to sample for (shhh!) free.  And, we are local, friendly, and like to share.

Dark Lord Day

by Mr. Brent Shumard, Lush beer nerd

Dark Lord Day…the name has ominous overtones and conjures up images of people summoning evil things from the nether-regions of the universe to serve their dastardly purposes…but it shouldn’t.

Say those three words to a beer geek and expect to hear a gasp, a smile, and possibly a couple of stories if they’ve managed to make it there. Read the rest of this entry »

Kallari Project Chocolate and LUSH Wine

March 13, 2009 at 2:02 pm (Our Favorite Things, Special Events, What we are eating, What we're drinking) (, )

Presented by Ms. Erin and Ms. Rachel at the Fine Arts Building, 410 South Michigan

Kallari Chocolate, Ecuador

LUSH is sticking to our eclectic tendencies and love of all things interesting, odd, and delicious, thus pairing Ecuadorian chocolate with LUSH wine is a tasty challenge!  Pairing wine and chocolate sounds like a brilliant idea…and it is, if properly executed with balanced flavors.  The trick to compatibility is to carefully match the right wine with the right chocolate.  But, since taste is a very subjective matter, you will have to experiment.  Sigh, such a tough task. Surviving Epic Tastings: A Field Guide

January 30, 2009 at 5:26 pm (French Wine, Our Favorite Things, Special Events, Uncategorized, What we are thinking) (, , , , , )

I recently attended the tasting for the 2006 vintage of Bordeaux, put on by the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux at the very historic and beautiful Palmer House Hilton. I went with Ms Jane Lopes of Roscoe Village Lush fame, and I am glad I had her company, because these events are always just this side of insane. Read the rest of this entry »
