I would wait in any line, any day, any time, for more of those ribs, with a little more pickled watermelon to cleanse my palate. Yes, last Saturday was the second installation of what is definitely my favorite of the LUSH dinner series. Quintessentially American, with loads of family-style food and lots of big, bold, juicy Zin to pair with it. Despite a few brief spurts of rainstorms, the night was perfectly comfortable; not too hot, not chilly. We even got to see a rainbow in between showers, and then, after that, a DOUBLE rainbow! LUSH even included free fireworks from the lakefront as part of our dinner package. Highlights of the evening included Ms. Jane toasting the top of the mac and cheese with a blowtorch, and, of course, Mitch sabering a bottle of Champagne for the LUSh staff after we finished all the cooking. One man’s folly is another’s pleasure. Er, well. Two Brothers’ ‘oops’ is about to be YOUR good luck! A little over a year ago, our friends over at Two Brothers made a batch of their red rye ale, Cane and Ebel, with too much sugar. It became HUGE and super malty; with a 10% ABV, this Imperial version of the Cane and Ebel was a one-time offering that we decided to put away for a bit in our cellar. We’ll be unleashing it on draft THIS FRIDAY at LUSH on Halsted, and sampling out great picks from the rest of the Two Brothers lineup. We’re even breaking out the grill and slangin’ brats and stuff, so come party with us, try some great beer, and relish in the fact that you’ll get the chance to sip on a beer no longer available ever again, anywhere. Yeah, we love you. 6-9 PM at LUSH on Halsted. Entry and some free samples available for free. Food and Imperial Cane and Ebel will be available for purchase.

PAELLA: A Recap
Saturday, May 30th
The anticipation has been building, and we just practiced our first patio event of the season, so the Lushes are very very excited to announce the recount of our first patio series event of the season! You may just regret that you missed the Mario Batali in Spain inspired 30 quart paella pan and pitchers full of sangria! We rocked it out with traditional tapas and extreme, iced buckets of refreshing boozy beverages, as well. Really. Dig it. Cost was $40 bones, NOT including tax or tip, and reflects estimated market value of ingredients and wine…shrimpies, squid, monk fish, chicken thighs, chorizo, saffron, smoke paprika, fancy Spanish rice, olives, baguettes and manchego, pink txakolina and vinho verde, and homemade sangria, yeehaw.
Paella: a rice based seafood dish originating from Valencia, Spain. Chefs have free reign with ingredients, but the crazy LUSH paella to included a plethora of sea creatures, saffron, olive oil, chicken and pork sausage, and other tasty morsels.
Sangria: translates to ‘bloody’, but the LUSH version of the wine and fruit based punch was full up with rose wine, a touch of homemade simple syrup, brandy, peaches, strawberries, apples, and some delicious secret ingredients. Drink up! [If you would like our recipe, email email@example.com].
