LUSH Interview: 10 Questions with Lily D.
Ten Questions With…
Ms. Lynn Dakulous
Lush staff member, and soon to be Doctor of Medicine
BIO: Ms. Lynn, wine-lover, snowboarder extraordinare, and soon to be fabulous medical student has been a LUSH for a little over 2 years. Formally a manager of the great Spiaggia, her knowledge and love of wine has taken her on many adventures, most recently to Oregon. The Wall Street Journal has also shown love to Ms. Lynn, honoring her wine and food pairing advice with an excerpt in a national article, alongside her very own pencil-sketched portrait featured in their wine section! While she will be leaving Lush to pursue becoming the most wonderful doctor ever, she will always have a place in our hearts, a stool at the bar, and a full glass at the ready. She is one tough, sassy lush lady that will be dearly missed by local customers in the ‘hood, as well as her Lush friends!
Hot times, summer in the city.
By: Ms. Wendy, wine geek extraordinaire.
Is there anything better than Chicago in the summer? Cubs games, lake trips, biking trails, picnics in one of our hundreds of parks, swimming pools and sidewalk cafes keep the hope in our hearts during those long, lonely winter months. For me, personally, it’s knowing that my palate will once again crave white wine! Perfect, crisp, refreshing white wine. Hints of honeydew, airs of apricot, achingly acidic white wine captures the essence of summer weather. Lucky for me, I work at a wine store and have access to hundreds of delicious bottles just waiting to be chilled!
A little bit about me: I have a tendency to get very excited. As a result I often get overwhelmed when the moment comes to make a decision. I want to choose a bottle that best captures what I’m feeling at the moment and one that will, hopefully, agree with the palate of whoever I may be entertaining. To keep my enthusiasm in check, I’ve created a list of “must drinks” for the summer. To further simplify things, I’ve separated it into categories. Lists make everything better. Delighted, take 1.
by Ms. Rachel Driver, avid wine drinker
Yesterday, quite by good chance, as I was working on my day off, our Wine Cru rep Mateo brought by a winemaker to taste with me at LUSH on Roscoe. And, it was SUCH a happy coincindence! Now, don’t get too excited, as we have yet to actually have any other wine in the shop…but I will take special orders OR you can wait for it to sneak in next week. BUT, this is the most excited I have been about discovering a new wine in quite some time. Read the rest of this entry »
Book Club: A Hedonist in the Cellar
Due to a less than stellar response to this month’s book club meeting, we have decided to postpone it for the time being…in lieu of an actual meeting, I wanted to start a little web discussion about the book. Please respond freely!
First, if you haven’t had a chance to pick it up: do. A Hedonist in the Cellar by Jay McInerney. McInerney is most famous as a novelist, for books like Bright Lights, Big City and Brightness Falls. He also just released a set of short stories called How It Ended, for which there is a very fun video interview with him on nytimes.com. What is not talked about as often is McInerney’s wine writing (Mr. New York Times interviewer didn’t even ask him about wine! The barbarity!), which is some of the sharpest, funniest, most enjoyable out there. Read the rest of this entry »
Dark Lord Day
by Mr. Brent Shumard, Lush beer nerd
Dark Lord Day…the name has ominous overtones and conjures up images of people summoning evil things from the nether-regions of the universe to serve their dastardly purposes…but it shouldn’t.
Say those three words to a beer geek and expect to hear a gasp, a smile, and possibly a couple of stories if they’ve managed to make it there. Read the rest of this entry »
Things I heart, take 3.2
Vinaceous ‘Divine Light’ Verdelho. I really heart it. I tried it some time last year and again, it was love at first sip. I can not wait to sit on my porch one afternoon with this refreshing beverage in hand. Light, citrusy, acidic but still fairly soft. Nice and aromatic just asking to be drunk on a nice sunny day. Ahh, I am dreaming about it right now.
*If you hurry to our Halsted shop, I know that we have a bottle open for sampling.
LUSH Interview: 10 Questions with Rob Salitore
Ten Questions With…
ROB SALITORE
BIO: Rob is a long time supporter of LUSH, actually one of our first customers! Although he works mainly in construction, Rob’s latent talent is developing deep friendships and creating a growing appreciate for sharing moments, and sips, with amazing people. He also has phenomenal connections in the beer and wine world. On his ‘off’ time, Rob represents Linne Calodo wines in Chicago. This is one cool guy.
